“But you’re the only one, Scarlet. You’ll always be the only one.”

Even better than Cinder! I loved this book. It is one of those rare sequels that didn’t drop the ball. In fact, it kept the ball rolling. Meyer was able to introduce new characters, settings, and ideas without leaving me bored at any moment.

So, what’s this book about?

Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles.

She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life.

When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own. As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

As the title suggests, the book introduces a new character, Scarlet, along with Wolf and a continuation of the introduction of Thorne. Scarlet isn’t my favorite character (not to say I dislike her) but I still really enjoyed her introduction.

Her blossoming relationship with Wolf is seriously one of the most heartwarming, fun parts of the entire series.

As a random side note, the narrator of this series, Rebecca Soler (who I love, by the way), gave Scarlet a french accent, which makes sense. I just don’t remember it being there. Also, sometimes, it was there, and sometimes it wasn’t.

The plotline of Scarlet was also really enjoyable. The mystery and journey of Wolf and Scarlet was ensnaring and page turning.

That said, I loved Cinder and Thorne’s storyline even more. I loved watching their escape and escapades around space together. They have such fun chemistry. It’s honestly some of the most entertaining banter I’ve read in a YA series.

Overall, this was such a great follow up to the already amazing Cinder
